Popular science: how can IKEA make you want to buy more and more?

I don't know if you've ever felt that every time you walk into Ikea, you can't help but look around and touch things. This kind of behavior is called "impulse shopping" in psychology, which means that when people see the advantages of something, they forget about their own needs and make an order without thinking about it. Ikea, on the other hand, is a master at exploiting this psychology.

In this video, Vox asked the creative director of IKEA to explain the concept of IKEA's layout design. According to him, only about 20% of the purchases made in IKEA stores are pre-planned by customers, while the other 80% are impulse purchases.

After all, all the aisle layouts, merchandising, shelf placement, and even the restaurant at the exit are all little bits of IKEA design to get you to buy more stuff.
