Popular Science: How is square marble mined?

The Alps, in Italy, are world-famous for their marble production. Every year, 4 million tons of marble are mined here and exported to the rest of the world. The value of an entire mountain is an exaggerated $1.2 billion.

To break these solid mountains into square marble blocks, special equipment designed by the Italians for this purpose "braided wire" saws made of diamonds and giant mechanical chainsaws is needed.
